Malana

The Malana Hydro Electric Power Project is a Run-of-the-river Hydro Power project, located on the Malana Nallah, a tributary of the Parbati River in the Beas Basin in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh. The Malana Hydropower Plant was commissioned in July 2001.

The Plant helps to meet the power shortages in the Northern region. In the months from November to May, the plant operates on peaking capacity. In the rest of the year, which is the summer and rainy season (June-October),  it is operated as a baseload plant.

Project Highlights

The plant was constructed and commissioned before the scheduled time, resulting in lower costs (less than Rs. 3.90 crores per MW, as against a normal cost of Rs. 5 crores per MW).

Out of eight projects allocated through the MOU route by the Govt. of H.P., Malana is the only project to be completed ahead of time.

Malana Power Company Limited has secured ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 certifications. These certifications reiterate the company’s efforts towards the quality of generation and supply of dependable power to its customer, preventing pollution, ensuring safety at the workplace, and taking a keen concern in the health of the employees.
